Ali's Bake didn't begin as a business plan - it began during the Covid lockdown, at a time when food blogging on Instagram was just taking off. We started an Instagram page, cooking whatever we could and posting it - sweets first, then a few fast food items - just to share what we were making at home.

Somewhere in that mix, we tried baking a cake.

Like most bakers will tell you, our first cake was far from our best. But we kept at it - a few more attempts, a few more lessons - until it started coming together. Once it did, we began posting our cakes on Instagram under the name Ali's Bake, and people started noticing.

At the time, home-baked cakes were still a fairly new idea in Udupi. Not many people knew you could order a proper, fresh cake from someone's home kitchen - so this was new territory for the city as much as it was for us.

Covid, in an odd way, became the reason Ali's Bake found its first customers. With everyone stuck at home and unable to step out, our friends were the first to try ordering a cake from us. They told their relatives. Their relatives told others. Within weeks, orders were coming in from people we'd never met just through word of mouth, one referral at a time

We didn't expect it, but within the very first month of properly starting Ali's Bake as a business, we had closed over 105 orders. That's also why, even today, our Instagram handle is still @Cookwith_parveen a small reminder of where this all started, before "Ali's Bake" was even a name people recognised.

What started with one hesitant first attempt has grown into more than 10,000 cakes delivered across Udupi. And we've grown beyond cakes too - today, Ali's Bake also puts together gifts and hampers for birthdays, weddings, and anniversaries, along with save-the-date videos, nameplates, photo frames, and more. If it's part of someone's celebration, chances are we can bake, wrap, or put it together.

Ali's Bake operates as a home bakery in Udyavara, Udupi. We bake to order, so we recommend placing your order at least 24 or 48 hours in advance for the best results - sooner for custom or theme cakes.
